Don’t you love spring?! The birds singing in the early morning, welcoming a new day. The lacey green buds on the trees and bushes, the colorful early blooms peeking out from the cold ground. A bit later, flowering trees in full splendor; dotting a landscape with their pink, white, or burgundy beauty! Female robins heavy with their next batch of eggs. Soon, the baby blue shells cracking open, with hungry little mouths ready to be fed. Rain showers drenching the earth, providing the moisture needed for another season of growth. Another cycle of life begins.
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:22-23 ESV)
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep….The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (Read the whole Psalm 121: 1-8)
Our hearts want to join the birds in singing! The Lord is the Creator of this beauty, of the amazing diversity of nature, this rhythm of life. Yet, He also is the One who made us: to enjoy this world He has created, to be refreshed by it, to be reminded that this Creator God is also our Father God. And most of all, to ENJOY HIM! He desires our hearts to be filled with the love and awe that comes from being in His presence (perhaps in a “sanctuary” of nature and its beauty), with our focus on Him, the Creator.
Take time, to “stop and smell the roses”. Be still, and listen to the song of the birds, or the patter of the rain. May your hearts and minds be renewed with the hope of new life that comes from Him!
