“All hail the power of Jesus’ name, Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown him Lord of all!
Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown him Lord of all!” (1st verse)

This is a powerful and wonderful hymn. The lyrics were written by Edward Perronet, and first appeared in November 1779, in an issue of Gospel Magazine. According to Wikipedia, it has been called the “National Anthem of Christendom”.

When an angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph in a dream, he instructed him to not be afraid to take Mary as his wife. He was told that she would bear a son, and they were to call Him “Jesus”, because “He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:19-21 (NKJV)
In this example, and many others in the Bible, people are given specific names because the meaning of that name was significant in God’s plan and purpose for that person. Jesus fulfilled the purpose/meaning of His name. This week, “Holy Week”, we remember all that He willingly endured, because of His love for us: the betrayal of one of His disciples; the scorn and hatred of people who at first hailed Him, expecting Him to be a different kind of “savior”(one who would deliver them from the Roman oppression); humiliation, and extreme pain.
Instead, He humbly came on a donkey (not the royal entrance of a king), and yet provided us all the GREATEST type of deliverance—that of forgiveness for our sins, and the opportunity to be ‘right’ with God the Father. May we ponder and deeply appreciate all He did. May we show our love for Him, by obedience to His Word, and hearts of gratitude!
