A well-known expression. But, this is a ‘question’ or emotional state we probably all have experienced at some time, especially around major holidays, right? In our fast paced, fast food, fast delivery culture…who can escape the pressures of real or perhaps perceived expectations of others on us, or maybe even what we ‘demand’ of ourselves.
Is your Advent season, (these 4 weeks before we celebrate the most AMAZING event in all of human history)…the Birth of the Son of God, a time of stress or serenity?
As a previous therapist, who sought to understand the cause of problems and put activities and goals into action to relieve the pain or discomfort, or disability…I know the need to identify the real reason(s) for the stress that is felt. Some things are simply out of our control, and “letting go and letting God” becomes our prayer focus. Other things may be within our control, but perhaps circumstances disrupt the calmness or emotional equilibrium we can have, ie. God’s peace.
As we experience this Christmas season, it is my prayer that we will be filled with this promise: to “not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace that surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:6-7 ESV) In His presence is our peace!
May you be filled with the peace, joy, and blessing of Immanuel – “God with us”!
