One fall, when our children were young, we went on a trip to the Northeast to visit family and friends. One phase of our trip involved riding the Amtrak train from Boston to New York. As it was October, we had hoped to see some of the famously beautiful fall colors. To our great disappointment, the windows were so dirty that we could hardly see anything.
In the Scriptures we read, “For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)
Through the Bible, we learn of who God is, and through the life and teachings of Jesus, we understand more of His love for us, and His plan for us. However, we also learn that “eye hath not seen, nor ear heard…the things that God hath prepared for them that love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9). There are some things we can learn and know with great certainty, but this verse is especially intriguing! God has purposely limited our knowledge of all that He has planned for us…but it will be amazing!
In my last entry, I wrote of the urgency of ‘Being ready for His appearing!’ Being ready doesn’t mean we will be perfect in this world; but means seeking Him, believing in Him, and receiving His love and forgiveness is what makes us His children (John 1:12 ). This entitles and enables us to anticipate and eagerly await His return. (Philippians 3:20 italics mine).
There will be things, situations, challenges that we don’t understand; like looking through a dirty window so things are not clearly seen. However, we can know with certainty that one day He is coming to take us to Himself, away from the pain, sorrow, suffering of this world!
Dear Lord Jesus, Give us “eyes to see, and hears to hear” Your truth! Help us to be ready and eagerly awaiting that day when You will appear and take us to Yourself!” In Your Name we pray, Amen.
