I have been fortunate to have had the privilege of knowing, and interacting with certain people who have left an indelible mark on my life. One such person is Dr. Mark I. Bubeck.  For 10 years, he was the senior pastor of the church I attended, when I was first married.  A godly, compassionate man of prayer, he taught us many important Biblical truths and left his mark not only on those of us in the church, but also on many others in the community.  In his kind and caring manner, he knew how to bridge the gaps of discord that often occurs in Christian circles, and genuinely valued others!

Earlier this month he lost his battle with cancer, but as he would rather say, was “promoted to glory”, to be eternally with his Lord!  He will be greatly missed! I think about how much he inspired me and the thousands of others who have heard him preach, pray, or have read his books  (see below link to some of his recorded teachings) and I am reminded of the “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) that have gone before all of us who are followers of Jesus, and therefore part of His Beloved “Bride”.  In Joshua 4: 1-9, the Lord told Joshua to pick 12 men to each carry a rock from the River Jordan, and put it where they had camped as a remembrance of the miraculous way God had led and provided for them.

Recently, we celebrated Thanksgiving, a special day set aside to remember and be thankful for all the blessings we have received. It is also a good reminder to think about (on a regular basis not just on this one day), to remember those men and women in our lives who have been very significant; those who have given us an example and inspiration of what is good and how to best pattern our own lives.

In I Samuel 7:12, we read that the prophet Samuel, took a stone and called it “Ebenezer” because “thus far the Lord has helped us”. Let us take time to pause and remember how “thus far the Lord has helped us”, and figuratively put up our own “Ebenezer” stone!

Lord, we are so thankful for the example and inspiration of godly men and women who have gone before us!  Grant us the grace to live lives that can in turn be an inspiration for those who come after us!
